Brigadier General Wilson Bagonza, the Deputy Commander of the Armoured Division, has praised the Uganda Scouts Association for nurturing values of patriotism, discipline and leadership among young people.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a four-day scouting camp in Greater Masaka, Brig Gen Bagonza said the scouting movement continues to play an important role in preparing young people to become responsible and productive citizens.
The camp, held from 16 to 19 July 2026, attracted more than 1,000 pupils from schools across the Greater Masaka region.
Representing the Commander of the Armoured Division, Brig Gen Bagonza conveyed appreciation to President Museveni who is also the Patron of the Uganda Scouts Association, for his continued guidance and support towards the growth of scouting in the country.
“Scouting equips young people with vital values and practical life skills, including patriotism, discipline, self-reliance, survival skills and teamwork,” he said.
Brig Gen Bagonza encouraged the pupils to uphold the values they had acquired during the camp, saying these principles would help them succeed in life and contribute positively to their communities and the nation.
He also noted that a number of distinguished leaders serving in government and public institutions began their leadership journeys through scouting, demonstrating the long-term impact of the movement.
The Chairperson of the Uganda Scouts Association, Patrick Sseno, thanked President Museveni for his steadfast support to the scouting movement and expressed gratitude to the Armoured Division for providing security and other assistance throughout the camping activities.
“We are grateful to the Armoured Division for providing security and other support throughout the camping activities,” he said.
Sseno also commended the participating schools, teachers and pupils for their discipline and active involvement, which contributed to the success of the camp.
The ceremony was attended by the Masaka District LC V Chairperson, the Kalungu District Education Officer, officials from the Uganda Scouts Association, and pupils from participating schools.
